Classes and Floormates and Speech. Oh My!

Okay, so let's get down to business. (Before I continue, I'm going to go off on a tangent. That sentence reminded me of Mulan. Which reminded me that my floor definitely had a disney song singing night in the hallway last weekend. Man, we're so cool.) I realize I haven't updated in a while, but business has struck and my free time is slowly disintegrating. Anyway, I am approaching my fourth week of school, but honestly, it feels like I've been here forever. My classes are great! I love them! I mean, some are not as great as others, but I definitely enjoy being here and learning about film!

I'm taking a class called Digital Frame & Sequence and the basis of that class is still photography. So right now, we're just familiarizing ourselves with the camera, and doing exercises to help us, but soon we're going to start learning about editing on photoshop and final cut. And that will lead to our movie making! Even though we can't use motion film, we are using other techniques to make the photography work as a movie. I'm really excited! Here are a couple photos that I have used in class. My professor, Andy, thinks that I have a very 'experimental eye,' which makes me really happy!

I'm also taking the stupidest class ever. It's called Writing the Essay. Let me tell you a little about this class. NYU created it for its students. It does not exist anywhere else. The books required for this class all "welcome" NYU Class of 2015 students and congratulate them on their acceptance. I think that's pushing it a little if you ask me. Anyway, Writing the Essay is a class EVERYONE has to take at NYU. It fulfills the expository writing credits we need for our general ed. No AP tests or other college level writing classes will fulfill the credits. So, all freshman are placed in this class (death). Luckily, though, most students only have to take it one semester! Unluckily, I am not one of those students. Tisch students have to take it both fall and spring semester of freshman year. -_______- It's terrible. And don't get me wrong, I like writing. Actually, I love writing. However, the assignments we are required to do are just downright ridiculous! I spend every Monday and Wednesday (sometimes even more) down the hall in my friend's room attempting to "write the essay." See, we have the same crazy-lady teacher. So, it helps to work together. Literally, the BANE of my existence this year.

On a happier note: I started babysitting for Patrick and Hiromi last week! Erica is one of the most adorable babies ever! She is so smart and, when she is awake, very active! I am supposed to babysit her on Mondays because Hiro is taking a maternity yoga class! So far, I'm enjoying it! She naps most of the time, but I am supposed to wake her up before Hiro gets home, so I get to spend a little time with her! I was able to get a few snapshots of Erica when she woke up from her nap last week!

She is such a happy little girl! I've enjoyed the time I've spent with their little family–it's really nice to have family faces around!

Let's see, what else can I say? I received all of my yarn, so in the moments when I need to relax, I've got that right there for me! I signed up to get emails from the speech and debate club, because they offer DI, but I haven't heard back about the first meeting. So I'm hoping that they just haven't had it yet. I would REALLY love to continue DI. I miss it a lot. Hmmm, what else can I say? My roommates are still great. Definitely a good thing! My floormates are fantastic! We hang out all the time and go to floor dinners most nights. Like I said earlier, I spend most homework time in one of the rooms down the hall. I've never liked so many people in one concentrated area. This is a new thing for me. Granted, there are a couple people I am not TOO fond of, but what can you do?

I haven't done too much exploring recently. Sort of sad in a way, but with school comes the busy season! With that being said, I should actually probably go wash my sheets! Laundry day is always the best! Luckily I don't have class on Mondays, so I have all day to do "Sunday stuff" without the crowd of people in the laundry room/cleaning/etc.

I'll try and update more often! TTFN!
